After a fruitless search for him, his family and friends abandon hope and hold a memorial service to commemorate his amazing life. His grieving wife, Tess (Leslie Hope), reluctantly tries to face the reality that her husband is gone, while her son, Lincoln (Joe Anderson), is more than ready to bury his past. Six months later Emmet's location beacon mysteriously begins to relay a signal. Tess persuades Lincoln to join her and Emmet's film crew on a journey through the Amazon to find him, a journey on which horrifying and almost mythical events will push them to their limits.

In the second hour — "Marbeley" — when the spirit of Emmet Cole mysteriously enters Jahel Valenzula (Paulina Gaitán), the message is clear … go home! Instead, Tess is determined to go into the jungle to find clues to Cole's whereabouts. While on their mission, they discover a tree draped in children's dolls that they suspect is there to ward off the "spirit of the abandoned girl" who drowned in the river. Then, when a member of the crew goes missing, the group realize they'll have to endure a nightmare in order to appease an angry spirit and get their loved one back.

Take a first look at The River below.

Written by Allan Cubitt, the crime drama will follow a police investigation that uncovers the intricate story of lives entangled by a series of murders, from both the perspective of the killer's and victim's families.

"The Fall is a unique, forensic and characterful take on a classic genre that continues BBC Two's commitment to original British drama in 2012," said Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning. "Cubitt's rich and complex psychological thriller combined with another compelling performance from Gillian Anderson will keep viewers on the edge of their seats."

"Joe will be around for awhile," the author writes on his website.

About Thread of Hope (from the publisher): If someone took your child, how soon would you stop looking for her? If someone accused your best friend of a terrible crime, when would you stop defending him?

Seven years after Joe Tyler’s daughter Elizabeth was abducted, he hasn’t stopped looking for answers, and he hasn’t forgotten the friend who stood by him as he lost his wife, his home, and his career in his search. Now he’s been brought back to San Diego by the news that this friend has been arrested for beating up a teenage girl—a girl not much older than Elizabeth would be now.

Joe is convinced Chuck Winslow is innocent, but Chuck is in a coma and can’t explain what happened. And the more Joe hears about what Chuck’s been up to in the years he’s been gone, the less Joe recognizes his old friend. To find out the truth, he will have to face his ex-wife, his former bosses, and a hometown full of wealth, lies, and illicit privilege. When Chuck’s accuser goes missing, Joe must decide where his loyalties truly lie.

Important Note: This book was listed for free on the date and time of this post. Peace was what she needed, and time to figure out if forty is too late to start a new life. The town she remembered isn’t the same. A huge big box store wants to build and the town is sharply divided about its coming. Each side has drawn up battle plans. If that isn’t enough, Ellen makes an appointment to show her first house in her new real estate career and instead of a client finds the body of a man, beaten to death, in the walk-in closet. Could Hank Sawyer’s death have something to do with the new store’s coming? Hank was its most ardent supporter. Or could it be more personal? It seems half the staff at Harper’s Land Sales, where Ellen has just started work, had reason to hate Hank. Why? Ellen finds out all too quickly the real reason Hank was murdered and almost loses her own life.

Important Note: This book was listed for free on the date and time of this post. The poster's tagline: "Always together. Forever apart."

Directed by Aaron Rottinghaus from an original screenplay by Rottinghaus and Josh Danziger, Apart is the journey of the tragically star-crossed Noah Greene (Josh Danziger) and Emily Gates (Olesya Rulin), who are linked by a rare psychological disorder classified as ICD-10 F24, madness of two. Drawing from actual case history, this richly evocative and unsettling mystery holds a love story that will haunt you long after the final scene.

(Publisher's Weekly, 2002.)

About Bone Dry (from the publisher): Life can get a little wild from time to time for John Marlin— game warden in Blanco County, Texas — but few incidents compare to the stories flying around town at the start of this new deer season. Hunters are reporting an incredible sight: a six-foot-tall, drop-dead gorgeous blonde is roaming the woods, searching out camouflage-clad men with guns and disarming them with powers of seduction the likes of which none of them have ever come across before. Everyone has a hearty laugh at the expense of a few embarrassed hunters, until one of their own turns up dead in the woods. Now Marlin has a real mystery to deal with.

Meanwhile, rumors are spreading about a new Blanco resident, an ex-New Yorker named Sal Mameli who's ruffling feathers with his loud mouth and his penchant for getting his own way, no matter what the cost.

Before long, John Marlin realizes he may be the only sane man in town, and he's starting to wonder if he can last much longer himself. It's just the start of another unforgettable hunting season in Bone Dry.

Important Note: This book was listed for free on the date and time of this post. Determined to put his foster-brother’s killer behind bars, he has taken a leave of absence from New Orleans PD to hunt the man down. But what he finds instead is a woman who turns his lonely world upside down—and touches him as no other woman had ever done.

Grace Summerville’s identical twin sister has vanished without a trace. Grace has left her cozy Charleston home and high school counselor job, and rushed to New Orleans’ notorious French Quarter, where she discovers a dark, mysterious man watching her from the neighboring balcony.

From the second their eyes meet, Creole and Grace’s attraction burns out of control. But she is wary. She has heard about these hot-blooded Cajun men. They are intense. Passionate, like their music. Nothing remotely similar to the calm, dignified South Carolina gentlemen she is used to. Creole is just the kind of man she desperately needs to avoid.

After days—and nights—of sizzling clashes, where each suspects the other of duplicity, they finally strike a truce and work together to trap the man who is responsible for both terrible crimes. Meanwhile their attraction flames hotter and hotter with each erotic encounter they are helpless to avoid, until at last they end up in each other’s arms.

Closing in on the murderer, the worst happens, and they are trapped in his deadly net. Faced with certain death, will they finally admit to their secret hope for love and a future together?

Important Note: This book was listed for free on the date and time of this post.

This drama with tension — not a thriller as I have come to understand the term — set in the days before the Lehman Brothers collapse of 2008 has some terrific performances, but is paced so erratically that I found it hard to remain engaged in its paper-thinly plotted storyline.

Read the full text of our review at Mr. E. She was 88.

Ms. Gilman wrote the first of her Mrs. Pollifax books, The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax, in 1966 and went on to feature the character in 13 subsequent tales of espionage. Emily Pollifax was a 60-something suburban widow and grandmother looking to travel the world, the perfect cover for her role as an agent with the CIA. The books are set in exotic locales in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.

The character was featured in a film adapted from the first book in the series, 1971's Mrs. Pollifax—Spy starring Rosalind Russel in the title role. In 1999 CBS produced a made-for-television movie also based on this book, which stars Angela Lansbury.

Two years ago, Dorothy Gilman was honored by the Mystery Writers of America as their 2010 Grand Master.

(Related article: New York Times.)

But his rule-bending and bribe-taking have gotten him kicked off the force in Gulfport, Mississippi, and he's been given a second chance — in the desolate, Siberian wastelands of rural Minnesota. Now Billy's only got the local girls and local booze to keep him company. Until one of the local girls — cute little Drew, bassist for a psychobilly band — asks Billy for help with her boyfriend. Something about the drugs Ian's been selling, some product he may have lost, and the men who are threatening him because of it. Billy agrees to look into it, and before long he's speeding down a snowy road, tracking a cell of terrorists, with a severed head in his truck's cab. And that's only the start.

Important Note: This book was listed for free on the date and time of this post. Monday evening, a young socialite leaves a risqué lounge and never makes it home. Detective Jackson lands both cases, but at first he can't find signs of foul play. When the socialite turns up dead, his investigation uncovers her dirty secrets, which complicates everything. The case runs into even bigger trouble with a suspect who hasn’t left his house in a year. Mere hours after moving to maple syrup country, she and her husband, Nick, find a dead man, Allen Weston, in a well on their property. The police investigation forces the couple out of their lovely vintage farmhouse and—since the motels are packed with leaf-peepers — into a less than luxurious deer camp. Instead of mourning the loss of electricity and running water, Stella and Nick drive their Smart car all over the Vermont hamlet to question the quirky locals about Weston, a shrewd businessman who rubbed a lot of folks the wrong way.

Stella and Nick may never shed their flatlander reputation in this close-knit community, but can they get enough information from the taciturn townspeople to help Sheriff Mills solve the murder and sew up the investigation?

Important Note: Amazon.com updates its Kindle book deal every day at approximately midnight PT. Elizabeth Olsen is a student at the university where Matheson teaches. Robert De Niro plays Simon Silver, one of the most gifted psychics of all time, who Matheson tried — but failed — to prove as a fraud 30 years ago, and who has suddenly come out of retirement … but why and to what end is unknown.

Red Lights is written and directed by Rodrigo Cortés will open in Spain on March 2nd, 2012; a US release date has not yet been set.

The taglines on the posters are, respectively, "How much do you want to believe?", "Do you believe?", "There is no escape from your own mind", and "Not everything can be explained".

An archeologist friend has found a skeleton with a bullet hole in its skull under historic Bloodworth House, and Simon investigates with his usual doggedness until he discovers that the corpse is Anne Bloodworth, an heiress who disappeared in 1926. Shaw feels compelled to find out who killed her. J. McDonnell
A Jason Duffy Mystery
Publisher: Killeena Publishing

San Diego PI Jason Duffy is introduced in this mystery, of which we said, "Filled with insider details of the entertainment industry, music and mystery fans alike will be thrilled with Rock & Roll Homicide."

About Rock & Roll Homicide (from the publisher): Just as the rock band Doberman’s Stub was about to reach stadium tour status, its leader was brutally murdered when his headphones exploded during a recording session. The widow, who inherits $5 million, is the San Diego Police Department’s number one suspect. She hires Jason Duffy, a 27-year-old PI in his first year of private practice, in spite of his background as a former musician.

Jason learns that the victim was also a very skilled contract negotiator, who was in the middle of an acrimonious renegotiation with the record company at the time of his death. He also finds that the record company has a very unhealthy tie to the Russian Mafia.

As an inexperienced detective, Jason does not yet have the contacts within the police department to gather vital information. He is forced to mend fences with his estranged father, an opinionated ex-SDPD detective.

Read our review of Rock & Roll Homicide by R. He hasn't had a woman tell him what to do since then either. But in the company of Lewellyn Ferris, he's relearning both. And when he and his lady instructor find a well-dressed body floating in the moonlight, Paul adds deputy to his list of experiences …

Whether the death is accidental — or accidentally on purpose — Lewellyn is determined to tell in the truth. She enlists Pail and his walleye-expert buddy, Ray, to help her get to the bottom of the murky mystery. Whoever thought small-town retirement could be this dangerous?

Important Note: This book was listed for free on the date and time of this post.
